Alright, so let’s talk about this Credit One class action thing. It’s one of those situations where, if you’ve ever had a credit card with them—or just got bombarded with annoying calls from debt collectors—you might actually be owed some cash. No gimmicks, no hoops. Just real money, assuming you were caught up in this mess.
So here’s the deal.
Credit One Bank, yeah, the credit card company a lot of folks know for less-than-great customer service, got hit with a class action lawsuit. The claim? That they (and their crew of debt collectors) went wild with robocalls between 2014 and 2019. We’re talking calls to your cell without your okay. And not just once. Like, over and over—even when folks told them to knock it off.
The law they supposedly violated? It’s called the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, or TCPA. It basically says: hey, you can’t use auto-dialers or robot messages to call people unless they say it’s cool. Credit One and friends? Allegedly skipped that part. Instead of fighting it out in court forever, they went ahead and settled—for a fat $14 million.
So who actually gets paid?
If you were one of the unlucky people getting those automated calls—on your cell, without saying yes—you’re probably in the mix. Even if you didn’t get an official notice, you can still check online to see if you qualify. The only requirements? The call had to be made between 2014 and 2019, and you had to not give permission for them to call you like that.
How much money are we talking?
Well, that part’s a little fuzzy. Early numbers floated around $100 per person, but it’s a moving target depending on how many people end up filing. The more folks that jump in, the thinner the slice of pie. Still, even a chunk of that is better than nothing—especially if those calls drove you nuts.
How do you get your share?
Super easy. Just head over to the official settlement site (it’s something like CreditOneTCPASettlement.com—don’t worry, you’ll find it with a quick Google). You’ll either use a claim number from your notice or confirm your info on their site. Then, choose how you want to be paid: check, direct deposit, or even PayPal. Fast and simple.
Don’t snooze on this
There’s a deadline, obviously. You miss it, you’re out. They also give you a window to object or back out if you’re not into it. But if you’re like most people just wanting to get paid for being bothered? File the claim. Boom. Done.
Honestly, it’s kinda satisfying when companies have to cough up some cash for doing stuff like this. So if you think you got hit with those unwanted calls, check your status. Might as well get what you’re owed.
Credit One is terrible. They sent me a card.I never activated the card, never used the card. And now they are calling from some collections because say I have a past due payment and has put it on my credit report. If you question them they get angry and just end the call I’m so tired of them.
Yes I have been with them for along time. Still am
